Bully Neighbor

By

There can be nothing worse for the peace of a household than when a bully lives next door. Things happen that are way beyond your control. Whether it's turning your garbage bins over before they are emptied, throwing rocks on your roof during the early hours, stealing vegetables from your garden or robbing your tools, there is no limit to what such a person can do to you.

The worst thing about this type of activity is that you are largely on your own when dealing with it. The police are reluctant to get involved without hard evidence. That might mean installing 24 hour cameras which are expensive and most of them require some type of monitoring. Courts cannot issue punishment without camera proof or witnesses to the crimes. Other neighbours generally do not know about it or are reluctant to get involved.

The profile of a bully is generally two-faced. They choose their target(s) well and take out their venom on that victim. To everyone else they demonstrate a charming almost loving nature. They come from all walks of life and may be wealthy or other. They have a deep-seated sense of satisfaction in making at least one other person's life miserable while tending to enjoy a healthy social life with lots of friends.

The one thing that tends to be more noticeable about them is their dissatisfaction with their lot. They can also show signs of jealousy and unrest. They may appear to be high achievers but then it boils down to how much they can take from others rather than through their own efforts.

As a victim of a neighbor bully it is obviously a from of behavior that requires more focus from police and others. The profile of a bully is something we should be studying so they can be more easily identified and helped.

Tricks in Photography With Macro

By

What is macro photography?
Macro photography is the use of wide angle lens in order to take photos. It is known as wide angle lens because the peripheral view of the camera is much wider. It's a really good photo trick to use.

What effects does macro photography have?
Imagine yourself looking at a mosquito up close. I mean so close that you can't see anything else except for a giant mosquito. If your peripheral view has suddenly increased at the moment with a switch to macro, then the mosquito in front of you will look smaller and you will see more details of the environment surrounding the mosquito.

Lets take another example with a normal scenery. Fixating on the same scenery, lets say you suddenly switch your regular lens to your wide angle lens, you will immediately realize the following differences:
  1. Subjects that are far away from your physical location will look much farther away compared to subjects closer to you.
  2. Subjects that's very far away (like a far away mountain) will look blurrier, and smaller like shrinking the world into a crystal ball so the background doesn't interfere with what you are trying to express
  3. Pictures taken close to your subject will be distorted like a fun house mirror (this is a commonly used photography trick)
  4. Depending on the magnification potential of your lens, you can also focus your camera to get a super detail rich image on miniature objects like insects, toys.
Why are your lens' magnification important?
Magnification of your lens is the short way of calling your camera's magnification ratio. Magnification is simply how much your camera needs to "shrink" the subject onto your screen. Confused? Your subject (for example, a person) is almost always bigger than your camera's sensor. Lets say you are filling up the screen of your camera's sensor with a 2.2 meter tall giant, and your camera's sensor has a width of 22mm, then the magnification would be 1:100. If you want to take pictures of small creatures like grasshoppers, then your aim is to look for lens with magnification of 1:1 ratio. What this means is that if you move your camera very close to the butterfly you are trying to take, and you fill up your screen with your butterfly (whether you zoom in or walk closer), you should be able to see every detail clearly without any blur at all. If your macro lens shows a blurry image no matter how you calibrate then the magnification is not 1:1. Before you plan any tricks with photography, make sure you check the specifications of the lens you are preparing to buy.

Special effects Macro Can Produce
Macro also allows you to exaggerate the distance of objects that are far away from you. For example, lets say you position a person a few feet behind another person and took a photo of both of them, you will actually see the person behind seem very far away. Macro also makes subjects close to you show more clear details. This photography trick is often used to blur out far away subjects to create special effects like bokeh.

Difference between Macro mode and Macro lens
Even though both are macro, they actually have slight differences. Macro mode that comes with your camera simply opens your camera's aperture to be as wide as possible to imitate wide angle lens. Real professional macro lens can vary in terms of quality, and magnification ratio. If you are using a DSLR (digital single lens reflex), then it's recommended you get some macro lens for it. If you are just a beginner, you can always just make it yourself.

Finding the Best Almond Milk Brands

By

Almond milk has recently become a popular alternative to normal traditional dairy milk. It is a healthy drink that is low in glycemic sugars, calories, and protein. Although it does not have as much protein as cow's milk, most brand named almond milk has higher calcium content and higher vitamins and minerals content. This includes high levels of selenium, manganese, and vitamin E. In addition, it also provides a high antioxidant and flavonoid content. Overall, almonds provide benefits to cardiovascular health and are preventative of heart disease and cancer. Seeing why people want to substitute normal milk for a nut made milk isn't so tough now, is it?

On top of being a very healthy drink, almond milk is lactose and cholesterol free. This makes it a perfect switch for people who normally cannot consume regular milk for health reasons. After hearing about the benefits, most people are happy enough to jump on board and buy their very own carton of almond milk. Unfortunately, each brand offers a very different selection. Just like any other drink, if not more, almond milk comes in a variety of tastes and uses. Some brands taste better straight out of the bottle, while others are a lot more appropriate when used as a creamer in coffee or tea. Finding which is the smooth taste you're after for a drink and which is thick and creamy for your food can be a daunting task.

Almond milk brands don't often label what is the preferable use of their drink leaving it up entirely to the customer. Although this makes sense as everyone has a different opinion on what tastes the best to them, having a thicker consistency or added flavors is sometimes preferred when adding the milk to pancakes or in a cup of coffee. It also comes in many different flavors - but most popularly, chocolate and vanilla. Some brands also like to match and mix coconut, rice, and cashew flavors in as well.

Whether you've purchased this nutty milk many times before or are just contemplating on purchasing it for your first time, it is still a delightful drink. It may take a few tries until you find the right type of flavors in your almond milk that just snap right into place and make you fall in love. But when it does, the taste of will enamor you and have you craving more.

Helping Your Children to Find the Right Role Models

By

When we're young we are of course highly influenced by a wealth of external stimuli and our development can depend greatly on this input. Many environmental factors from our homes, to our schools, to our friendship groups will affect the way we learn and grow and the people we eventually grow up to be.

As a parent you will no doubt be acutely aware of that fact and you will be set on making sure your child has only the best influenced in their life to help them develop in the right way and make the right decisions.

One of the most important things to consider here is your child's role models and the kinds of people they look up to. When a child fixates on any role model, they will start to try to be more like them and they will make many decisions based on the way they think their hero would behave. If your child's hero is Superman, then you can bet they'll start dressing in red and blue and trying to be as heroic and honourable as possible - not a bad choice. On the other hand though if your child's role model is the most violent kid in his school... well then you can expect them to start smoking and starting fights. It really can be that profound an impact.

So how do you help guide your child to having the right role models? Let's take a look.

Being a Good Role Model
The first thing to recognize is that you will be your child's role model first and foremost (as will your partner). For a while at least you can do no wrong in your child's eyes, and this means that they'll be more likely to behave the way you do and even to pick other role models who somewhat resemble you. The most important way to ensure that your child has the right role models then is to be a great role model yourself.
Introduce Them to the Right Things

The next thing to do is to introduce your child to things that will be a good influence. Finding children's books for instance with swashbuckling adventurers and good morals can help your child not only in learning to read and developing their use of English, but also in knowing right from wrong and wanting to see and experience more of the world. If you make reading exciting and participate with your child in enjoying good books, then they will form good memories and associations with their fictional heroes and they will be likely to remember the lessons from those books later in life.

Don't Force the Issue

Note though that you can't force a role model on your children. If they end up liking Ben 10 instead of Tin Tin, then trying to convince them otherwise is only going to push them more in that direction. Try to share in what they enjoy, but demonstrate the things you like about your old heroes without forcing them down your child's throat.

Book Reviews: Reasons Your Book Is Turned Down

By

Being a book review blogger, I get more book review requests than you can even imagine. That's to be expected since the service I offer is free to the author and a great way to get their book in the spot-light to the community.

So How Do I Choose Which Books to Review?

There has to be a method to the madness otherwise the books would pile up in my mailbox and my reading list would go on forever. Therefore, book reviewers devise a method to how they go about narrowing down the list. Here are some helpful tips to get your book NOTICED in the crowd.

Personalize: Reviewers don't want to see a generic forwarded email popping up in their inbox. If you plan to take all of five minutes to create a mass text email to send to hundreds of bloggers, why should they take hours to read and write about your book? Show that you are a real human being and are looking for honest readers to check your book out. Personalize each request if you can.

Research: Most review websites will plainly write a list of which books they enjoy reading and will accept for review. If the blogger is solely a reader of paranormal books and you send a request for a western novel, you have to expect the no. Take time to find the blogs who enjoy the topic you have written about.

Be Patient: Book review blogging does not in fact pay our bills, so you won't be our number one priority. Bloggers appreciate anyone who sends out a resource in the hopes that we will review your book, post a timely review and say nothing but great things. This is real life. Unless you find a blogger new blogger who does not have a mile long reading list, you're going to have to wait some time for your review.

Looks Matter: Reviewers like book covers that look professional. If you are a new author who does not have the current funding for a professional looking book cover then you are going to have to go the extra mile in selling it. Take time to let the blogger know exactly what your book has to offer.

Connect: If your email book request is the first time you are ever acknowledging the book review blog, it could hurt your chances. Be engaging and show that you took the time to read the bloggers other reviews by leaving comments throughout a few of their posts. This will get you on their radar as someone who cares about what they have to say.

Most of these tips will be consistent with any book review blogger you try to connect with. Being an "up and coming" author means you have to put in the extra work in order to get noticed, so take the time to get to know the blogger before you pitch them.

On one final note, consider offering something other than a book review (yes, I said OFFERING). Try building a post about the ins and outs of your book, then pitch the document to the blogger saying "I know you're busy, so if you don't have time right now to read my book I completely understand. I would love to talk about creating a feature post to highlight what my book is about and who I think would love it. If I created the post for you, would you be interested in checking it out to possibly put on the site?"

You could write a post about the challenges of becoming a writer, the process you took while getting your book published or even the brainstorming that went into the ideas inside your book. The list of topics that are relevant to book review blogs could go on for days. You may be surprised by the change in results if you simply offer to do some of the work for them. Try it.
